INDUSTRIAL SCRAP METALS
We are an owner managed company and our main aim is to provide safe and friendly working environment for our staff and customers. We are fully computerised, and place a strong emphasis on health & safety.
We aim to make the process as smooth as possible promising easy off-loading in our fully concreted yard. Do you require scrap metal bins or a collection service? We offer this to our business partners. ISM has a variety of storage bin sizes and our own fleet of trucks to ensure timeous delivery and collection.
We operate in the Durban / Pinetown area’s to reduce traveling time for trucks ensuring quick and reliable service. There are calibrated scales onsite and we ensure you get the best possible deal with competitive prices. We support local Durban foundries and have built up a close working relationship with them.
Health & Safety is a priority for us. Our yards are always kept clean, staff are given appropriate training.
We recognize scrap metal theft is not only a local but a global problem. We try to do our best to put a stop to this. Where there is theft in our local community please inform us so we know what to look out for and work with you to catch those responsible.
We belong to an association called MRA who help us identify illegal scrap by training our staff and they’re on call to provide us with advice.
We are also in contact with the local policing forum to provide additional help.
Plant & Equipment
Supporting a fully equipped range of moving, sorting and crushing machines is a comprehensive fleet of bin retreaving heavy duty trucks.
ISM has in excess of 100 bins placed at customer premises, and is committed to providing competitive scrap prices to all of its customers.
A public weigh bridge is available at our Westmead operational headquarters.
Safety Compliance
Our main objective is to create a safe and friendly working environment for our staff and customers.
ISM employees are fitted with the necessary protective clothing and equipment. We have trained staff members in fire – fighting and first aid and all are equipped to carry out the relevant task when the need arises.
We actively engage in formal and on-site training as well as making sure we are compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
All metals that are purchased are sorted and processed. During this phase we try to salvage any materials for re-sale. All re-sale items are priced per kilogram on a market related basis. The items include:

Round bar
Plate
Channel / angle iron etc.
Various heavy duty machines, vehicles and equipment are utilized in the moving and processing of our scrap metal. These machines consist of shears, balers, croppers, shredder / grinder and electronic magnets. We have two excavators that have grab attachments for bulkier materials.
For the collection and delivery of our goods we have comprehensive fleet of vehicles which include skip loaders for 4, 6 and 8 cubic meter bins. In addition to the bin trucks, we also have flat trucks which are equipped with hydraulic cranes for heavier objects i.e old lathes etc.
We are legally bound by the Second Hand Goods Act of 2009. This Act gives strict rules and guidelines with regards to the purchasing and selling of all ferrous and non-ferrous goods.
Posters from the Department of Trade and Industry, Eskom and Telkom are displayed detailing which products are illegal to purchase. These are displayed for both our staff members and the public’s benefit.

ISM support charities in our local community such as Highway Hospice, St Martin’s children’s home and Alzheimer’s organizations.
